Natural hard stone and sustainability - a perfect match
Our granite working material already has a high level of sustainability. We also do a lot to act sustainably in other aspects of our business: In the production process and also in company management.
The natural hard stone granite has grown over millions of years and can be found in nature almost ready-made. This means that no energy is required to produce it today - nature already took care of that millions of years ago.
Energy is only required for extraction, transportation and processing. However, compared to other materials such as steel, plastic or ceramics, which are assembled from various raw materials, this energy requirement is also very low.
In terms of the global warming potential of the primary energy requirement, the CO2 emissions of granite are significantly lower than the CO2 emissions of other materials.
Due to the high abrasion resistance of the material, measuring instruments and assemblies made of natural hard stone are subject to only minimal wear and can be used for many decades.
In addition, many products and components can be easily refurbished time and time again. Traces of wear can simply be ground off and lapped to create a component that is almost as good as new.
PLANOLITH offers this calibration service both directly at the customer's premises and as a retrofit in the factory.
Granite is almost unbeatable when it comes to the service life of products. There is hardly any other material that has a longer service life than natural hard stone.
The stable material makes it possible to manufacture measuring instruments and components in lightweight construction. We mill out the inside of the granite body, leaving solid ribs. Lightweight measuring standards offer the same accuracy as solid parts, but they save weight during transportation and time during the necessary tempering on site.
Lightweight measuring tools offer many advantages in use. Last but not least, they save energy during transportation because the load on the transport vehicle is significantly reduced.
Unusable products made of natural hard rock/granite can still be processed into gravel and chippings. The material does not contain any harmful substances, so that nothing stands in the way of a new, completely different use.
Finally, granite can also be safely returned to the material cycle. This is because natural stone is considered to be the same as clean building rubble according to the AVV (Waste Catalogue Ordinance).
Granite also performs excellently in terms of disposal. Its natural and durable properties make it a perfect recycling material.
As early as 1986, we thought ahead and introduced a closed water cycle for our process water. The water we use in the machining process is collected, purified and reused. In this way, we save 75 percent of fresh water compared to the previous supply of process water.
Water is a valuable resource. A closed process water cycle helps to relieve the groundwater level in the entire surrounding area.
We take the responsible separation of waste very seriously and put this into practice every day.
We receive appropriate disposal certificates from the waste disposal companies for the environmentally friendly disposal of our auxiliary and operating materials.
Sustainability is also reflected on a small scale. We make sure that our waste is recycled or disposed of in the right way.
Cycling to work - we support this environmentally friendly and health-promoting measure by leasing bicycles with JobRad. Anyone who works for us can choose the bike of their choice and use it in the form of a salary conversion at no extra cost. PLANOLITH pays the necessary insurance and service rates.
With JobRad, everyone in the team can actively participate in reducing the company's ecological footprint every day.
Filing cabinets full of paper and every email being printed out - this has long since ceased to be the case at PLANOLITH. Our data management system automatically captures data from the ERP system and scans and archives documents. This has already saved us over 60% paper compared to 2019.
Producing paper requires a lot of resources. With intelligent data systems, we can do a lot to conserve these resources.
As important as personal contact is in some cases, many things can be discussed just as well via video call. We use appropriate conference and meeting software to exchange information with our customers quickly, easily and flexibly. This eliminates the need to travel many kilometers by company car or plane.
Wherever it suits us, we avoid business trips and opt for a more environmentally friendly, virtual alternative.
